Caddis have joined the party on the Stillwater!

IMGP1485The heaviest caddis hatch in years is happening right now on the Stillwater. Rafts of caddis are floating down the river in the afternoon. March Browns are still popping, too. Every fish in the river is eating the dry fly!

Jimmy’s in love!

After a tough week of fishing, Jimmy kicked some butt on the Stillwater Sunday! All it takes is a little March Brown hatch to bring out the beast in him, apparently! This will give him something to dream about back in Houston.

March Brown Hatch on Mother’s Day!

photoYes, the Stillwater is cold and dirty. No, the Mother’s Day Caddis hatch has not started. But the dry fly fishing yesterday was excellent! March Browns started coming off about 3 PM and the fish really got on them. A size 14 parachute adams got eaten without hesitation until about 6 PM. We caught fish in the morning nymphing with the pepperoni yuk bug and bitch creeks. After we started seeing some bugs, we switched to a hare’s ear. The fish absolutely killed it! Went back to the hare’s ear after the hatch and continued to catch fish all the way to the take out. Don’t let the dirty water put you off, it certainly did not put off the fish. Jimmy and Steve wore themselves out catching fish in the mud!
